Social Work was first organized as a major area of study at Alabama State University in 1974. The Program was accredited by the Council on Social Work Education at the baccalaureate level in 1989. The Program’s accreditation was reaffirmed in 2000 for an 8-year period. It is the only accredited Social Work Program in the Montgomery area. The Social Work Program gained full status as a separate academic department in the fall, 1994. Upon successful completion of the prescribed curriculum, students receive a Bachelor of Social Work Degree (BSW) and are prepared for entry into beginning social work practice with individuals, families, groups, organizations, and communities in a variety of employment settings. |
